Smithville Telephone Company, Incorporated, is a certified incumbent local exchange carrier (ILEC) in Mississippi. Serving rural portions of Itawamba and Monroe Counties in the state's northeastern area for more than a half century, the company has provided rural broadband services since 2001.

Current and Future Broadband Services

Broadband is currently provided using a mix of symmetrical and asymetrical digital subscriber line equipment of various types. Generally, this type of service is called DSL regardless of the actual type.

Future servces will be provided using both fiber to the home (FTTH) and advanced VDSL2 equipment. Most locations inside the traditional Smithville Telephone Company service area will be connected using fiber optic cable, the best possible type of broadband facliity. Final conversions from copper-based DSL to FTTH service will occur in late 2013 or early 2014.
